Learning about how the law affects a teen's everyday life may seem extremely insignificant or unimportant to many youth. However, many young people may be surprised to learn how the American justice system touches their lives on issues such as facing a traffic ticket, driving while intoxicated with friends, searching school lockers for drugs and drug paraphernalia, destroying public property with graffiti, writing controversial topics in the school newspaper, as well as many other areas. As a service to high schools and other community groups the Maryland State Bar Association provides a free Speakers' Bureau that addresses these issues and more for those interested in learning more about the law. The Bureau can also provide speakers who will discuss careers in the legal profession. Interested parents or teachers may call Jennifer Henderson at (410) 685-7878 or (800) 492-1964 to receive a list of potential topics or to discuss securing a speaker for your group. ###
