RICHARD MONTGOMERY HIGH SCHOOL WINS
STATE BAR MOCK TRIAL COMPETITION
|
Richard Montgomery High School is the champion
of the 2004-2005 Maryland State Bar Association (MSBA) Statewide High
School Mock Trial Competition. On April 29, in the Court of Appeals of
Maryland with Judge Lynne Battaglia presiding, the Richard Montgomery
High School team engaged in a lively final championship match with
Owings Mills High School team and was declared the winner.
Last fall, 1800+ high school students, representing 138 high schools
across Maryland, entered MSBA’s annual statewide High School Mock Trial
Competition. These student mock trial teams perform the same trial,
assuming the roles of attorneys and witnesses. Teams devote countless
hours in preparation for the competition under the direction and
guidance of volunteer attorney and teacher advisors.
Since its inception in 1983, over 32,000 Maryland youth have
participated in MSBA's Mock Trial Competition. MSBA's educational arm in
Maryland schools, the Citizenship Law-Related Education Program (CLREP),
manages the competition. MSBA sponsors this educational and enjoyable
contest to promote young people's understanding of the law, trial
procedures and the legal system.
