Professional Investigator's Alliance of Maryland
Establishes Pro Bono Program
By Caryn Gloyd

The Professional Investigator’s Alliance of Maryland (PIAM) has established a Pro Bono Program to create a way of giving something back to the community. The program will solicit PIAM members to volunteer to work free of charge for those citizens of Maryland who would not ordinarily be able to afford our services.

Any inquiring attorney should provide the particulars of the case and sign an affidavit certifying that the client is not able to afford these services and that the attorney is not in any way receiving fees (other than reimbursement for expenses, if applicable) for his/her services.

If the request meets the program’s guidelines, it will be posted on PIAM’s website and any interested member may accept it. If the request is not accepted by any member, members in the geographic area and/or area of expertise will be solicited specifically for assistance.

The investigator will work directly with the attorney. No facts about the actual investigation will be published without permission from the attorney and client. The investigator, however, will be asked to provide the PIAM Pro Bono Committee with time and expense reports. These figures will be used for promotional purposes only.

In turn, provided the work is satisfactory, PIAM will ask that the assigning attorney agree to use that investigator when he/she next has a paying job in that investigator’s area, and that the assigning attorney notify the local bar association in writing, detailing his/her interaction with the investigator (a letter of recognition, so to speak).

Potential assignments may be submitted via e-mail to either Caryn Gloyd (Caryn@shore.intercom.net) or Lloyd Davis (Lloyd@dda-gotcha.com).  Caryn Gloyd and Lloyd Davis may also be reached by toll-free telephone at (877) 349-0862 and (800) 782-0445, respectively.
