American University Opens Channels of
Communication for Law Students
By Janice Jones-Branch
The MSBA
participated in American University’s Washington College of Law School
networking event, “WCL Connects,” held October 8 in Washington, D.C.
The purpose of the event was to connect students early on in their
careers with organizations that will further their professional
development by fostering relationships with practicing attorneys and
other individuals in the legal profession. “WCL Connects” provided a
forum for organizations to publicize programs and events to encourage
student membership in law-focused associations. Along with the MSBA,
participating associations included the Maryland Trial Lawyer’s
Association and the Black Women’s Bar Association of Montgomery
County, Maryland.
Because
experience, training and networking are important parts of career
development, the event provided students with an opportunity to visit
association representatives and to ask questions about membership,
career tracks and fields of practice. MSBA provided information on
membership in the Association as well as its Sections. Other
represented areas of practice included international business, real
estate and human rights law.
“It is important
to foster alliances and relationships,” said WCL Dean Claudio
Grossman. “There is still much to gain and much to contribute, namely
relationships that continue through time.” |
