Solo/Small Firm Practitioner

It’s All About You!
(Solo and Small Firm Conference)

By Pat Yevics

Back This Year and Even Better

  • The Wellness Spot: “Fun, Fitness & Stamina: Principles and Strategies for the Healthy Lawyer” (hosted by the MSBA’S Lawyers Assistance Program) – Times will again be scheduled for blood pressure tests and massages. In addition, the Spot will be staffed by professionals who can answer questions on stress management, nutrition and health. This is a great opportunity to make certain that your lifestyle is promoting peak professional performance.

Something for Every Practice Need

  • Just for the Tech of It Track – Practical and useful topics to help practitioners make choices about new technology or use current technology more effectively.
  • Practice Perfect Track – Topics to help you improve office practices.
  • MICPEL Legal Topics Track – Five legal-specific topics, held in conjunction with MICPEL.
  • How to Start a Solo Practice Track (co-sponsored by the Young Lawyers Section) – Specific and practical topics for practitioners who are new to solo practice or thinking about going solo.

Building on Success: Worth Repeating

  • Keynote Speech – The ability to communicate effectively can increase your chance at success regardless of your practice area or where you practice. Our keynote speaker is from Dale Carnegie, and he will give 12 tips on how to improve your communication skills. This is a small part of their extremely effective “High Impact Presentation Skills Program.” You will gain information that you will use every day of your life.
  • Vendor Exhibits – These are vendors who provide services and products specifically for the solo and small firm practitioner. Meet with them and have your questions answered.
  • Vendor Raffles – These were a big hit last year and will be again this year. Vendors will raffle off prizes each hour throughout the day.
  • Great Food, Great Sessions, Low Price – The same price as last year and the best value for your education dollar. Reduced price for additional attendees from the same firm. This is a great opportunity for your paralegal or office manager to attend to help you with the job of being more productive.
  • Convenient Time – It is being held on Saturday so that solo and small firm practitioners will not have to take valuable time away from the office and clients.
  • It’s All About You – All sessions and topics are designed specifically for the solo and small firm practitioner. The speakers are solo and small firm practitioner or have experience working with solo and small firm practitioners. This is information that you can use on Monday when you get back to your office.
  • Materials You Can Use Again and Again – The written materials are worth the price of admission. We ask all speakers to prepare materials that will be useful even for attendees unable to attend a particular session. Last year, there were over 500 pages of materials.
  • Stop Reinventing the Wheel – You can network with other solos to discuss common issues and perhaps come up with solutions to some of your own problems. You will also have the opportunity to meet with speakers to get more specific information.
  • Easy to Register – You can register securely online at www.msba.org.
  • MICPEL Garage Sale – MICPEL will have many materials from previous courses as well as other publications on sale at reduced prices just for this program.
