Michael D. Zimmer has been appointed to fill a vacancy on the Carroll County Republican Central Committee. Zimmer maintains a solo general practice office in Mount Airy, Maryland.

William W. Carrier has been named the new managing partner of Tydings & Rosenberg LLP, effective March 1, 2004. Carrier previously served under William Sammons as the firm’s Administrative Partner.

Hodes, Ulman, Pessin and Katz, P.A., recently promoted Paul E. Mack as a new Member with the firm.

Jeff Bae, JD, a senior analyst at Valuation Services, Inc., has successfully completed the certification process with the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts to earn his designation of Accredited Valuation Analyst.

G. James Benoit, Jr., and Marci I. Gordon have joined the Baltimore Office of Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP, as associates. Benoit is an associate in the Business and Finance Department and a member of the Securities Group, and Gordon is an associate in the Real Estate Department.

John Hardwicke, former chief administrative law judge for the State of Maryland, has been named executive director of the National Association of Administrative Law Judges, which will move its headquarters from Chicago to the University of Baltimore School of Law.

Michael C. Hodes, Managing Director of Hodes, Ulman, Pessin & Katz, P.A., has been appointed to the Editorial Advisory Board of Marketing the Law Firm, a newsletter published by Law Journal Newsletter.

Kimberly A. Manuelides, an attorney in the Baltimore office of Saul Ewing LLP, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Baltimore chapter of Commercial Real Estate Women. Manuelides will serve as Membership Chair in 2004, assisting the organization in its recruitment of professional women in the commercial real estate industry.

Stuart Muntzing Skok has become a principal in the firm of Gimmel, Weiman, Ersek & Blomberg, P.A. Skok is the current President-Elect of the Montgomery County Chapter of the Women’s Bar Association of Maryland.

Whiteford, Preston & Taylor attorney James R. Chason has been named to the Board of the Carson Scholars Fund, a nonprofit organization created to promote academic achievement and help American children stay competitive with other countries in science, math and technology.

Stephen H. Kaufman has joined the law firm of Offit, Kurman, Yumkas & Denick as Partner and Chairman of the Health Care Law Group. Kaufman will focus his practice on the areas of health care law, employment law and civil litigation.

Benjamin R. Civiletti, former U.S. Attorney General and a Chairman of the Washington, D.C.-based firm Venable LLP, has joined the National Center for State Courts’ Lawyers Committee, which involves prominent practicing attorneys in the National Center’s work and programs.
