Volunteers
Needed for New Admit Swearing-In Ceremony (June 15, 2004)
Last December, attorneys
from MSBA’s Membership Committee and Young Lawyers Section welcomed
new admits into the Maryland State Bar Association during swearing-in ceremonies
at the Maryland Court of Appeals in Annapolis, Maryland. MSBA members
Sarah Otwell, Hughie Hunt, the Honorable Jean Baron, Walter Childs, Sarah
Andrews, Matthew S. Evans, Alice Chong, Ashley Hou, Gwen Tate,
Steve Oberg, Michelle Stawinski and Jonathan Kagan shook hands with
the 1,020 new admits while handing out MSBA membership benefit packages.
“Participating is
a reminder to me of why I became an attorney,” said Hughie Hunt, a
member of MSBA’s Membership Committee.
The volunteers are already
gearing up to welcome the new admits who are being sworn-in this June 15,
2004. If you would like to participate as part of the welcoming team, please
call Jan Jones-Branch, Membership Committee Liaison, at the Maryland State
Bar Association at (410)685-7878, ext. 3015, or send an e-mail to request
more information to jbranch@msba.org.

Consumer Bankruptcy Practitioners
The Consumer Bankruptcy
Committee and Membership Committee will cosponsor an educational program
entitled Topical Issues in the Consumer Bankruptcy Practice Area on
Friday, June 18, at the MSBA Annual Meeting in Ocean City, Maryland. This
program will examine emerging issues that affect consumer bankruptcy attorneys,
such as local rules, legislation and court procedures. It will focus on legal
representation and benefit those attorneys who share similar interests in
other practice areas, such as personal injury, family practice, workers’ compensation
and alternative dispute resolution. Various issues of consumer bankruptcy
will be addressed, such as:
- Current legal developments
and case law updates
- Local rule changes
that affect debtors and creditors
- Practical tips on effective
client representation
- Information on emerging
trends
- Ethical issues in consumer
bankruptcy cases
