The Maryland Bar Foundation, a non-profit charitable corporation which funds
law-related public service projects, has inducted Jan I. Berlage as a fellow.
Berlage is a litigator for Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP, and
a member of the MSBA Board of Governors.
The Honorable Richard C. Goodwin, an Administrative Law Judge, has been named
Vice Chair of the National Conference of the Administrative Judiciary at the
American Bar Association's Annual Meeting and also appointed a representative
of the Vice Chairs to the Section Officers Conference of the ABA.
The Maryland Hispanic Bar Association has designated Bettina Guevara, an
associate with Miles & Stockbridge, to serve as the president-elect for the
2006-2007 term and president for the 2007-2008 term.
Steven R. Smith, a health law practitioner with Ober Kaler and active member
in the American Health Lawyers Association, has been elected to the board of
directors of the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Inc., which promotes
research for a universal cure for sickle cell disease.
Franklin Square Hospital has added two Whiteford, Taylor & Preston attorneys
to their organization. G. Scott Barhight has been elected Chair of the Franklin
Square Hospital Foundation's Board of Directors, while John Gontrum, a past
president of the Baltimore County Bar Association, has been named Chair of

The Johns Hopkins Office of Technology Transfer has appointed Wesley D. Blakeslee,
a JHU attorney with thorough experience in commercialization of technology
and licensing of intellectual property, its acting director, as well as the
acting director of technology transfer for the School of Medicine.
The American College of Trail Lawyers, a premier legal association, has inducted
