Thomas D. Murphy

MSBA Past President Thomas D. Murphy was appointed to serve a three-year term on the Executive Council of the Board of Directors of the National Conference of Bar Presidents (NCBP) in August during the NCBP Annual Meeting in Chicago.

Sheela Murthy, founder and president of the Murthy Law Firm, was named by The Daily Record as one of their 2012 Innovators of the Year.

The 2012 Washington D.C. Mayor’s Arts Award was given to Paul C. Jorgensen of The Jorgensen Law Firm, PLLC. Jorgensen has provided over a decade of pro bono legal counsel to artists and arts organizations in the District of Columbia.

Gregory Nugent, an attorney with Nugent Christoff, PLLC, was named a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

Cheryl Hepfer was sworn in as president of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. Hepfer is a principal at Offit Kurman and is based out of the firm’s Bethesda, Maryland office.

The Brassel Law Group, LLC, added Stacey B. Rice as a member. Rice practices in family law, criminal defense, protective orders, traffic cases, and general civil litigation.

Miller, Miller & Canby added Helen Whelan to the firm as a principal in the Estates & Trusts Practice Group.

Stephen B. Stern, a partner at Hyatt & Webber, P.A, was awarded the 2012 Label A. Katz Young Leadership Award. This award is given to individuals under the age of 45 who have demonstrated outstanding service to the totality of B’nai B’rith and have worked to achieve the goals of the B’nai B’rith Young Leadership program.

P. Andrew Torrez, a commercial litigation attorney in the Baltimore office of Zuckerman Spaeder, LLP, leads the firm’s new blog, “Suits by Suits” (www.suitsbysuits.com), which analyzes disputes between companies and their senior executives, addresses topics like litigation over employment contracts, and covers other related topics.
