Keep an eye on the MSBA website www.msba.org for upcoming 2012 live programs. Registration is open for a new debt collections program and a new program addressing proper management of the attorney trust account. If you cannot attend the live program you can find these programs available online, on demand approximately four weeks after the live program in addition to video replays available in Montgomery County and Baltimore City. If you missed Maryland Construction Law, Being the Trustee, or Accounting for Lawyers in March and April they’re available online and as re-webcasts now. All video replays and online programming carry CLE credit just like the live programs. See below for details.

Thank you again for your continued support and, of course, thank you to our fine volunteer faculty that make the exceptional CLE programs offered by this office possible.

Publications

Maryland Criminal Pattern Jury Instructions, Second Edition, prepared by the MSBA Standing Criminal Sub-Committee on Maryland Pattern Jury Instructions, contains more than 180 jury instructions accompanied by comprehensive comments explaining the appropriate constitutional, statutory, court rule, and case authority supporting the instruction. The instructions are impartial, accurate statements of the law, understandable by the average juror.

In addition to instructions on specific criminal offenses, the book includes: introductory and cautionary instructions; general instructions; evidentiary instructions; and instructions as to defenses, parties, and verdict sheets.

The book further serves as an excellent primer on evidence, burden of proof, and the elements of criminal offenses. The book is also made easy to use with a comprehensive table of authorities, table of cases, and index.

What’s New in the Second Edition?

In this first update since 2007, the Committee has made major revisions to the new Second Edition with substantial changes to nearly 80 percent of the instructions. The notes on use and commentary also include substantial changes. The more than 180 jury instructions include over 16 new instructions as well as over 20 renamed instructions. As an added bonus, the new Second Edition includes a handy Instructions Table to assist readers familiar with the first edition in locating Instructions that are new, have been deleted, rearranged, or renamed since the first edition. The new Second Edition will also include a CD with all the instructions formatted in rich text format (fully compatible with WordPerfect® or Microsoft Word® format), saving you hours of time! The instructions are up to date, providing an invaluable aid to the busy practitioner!
