David A. Simison, MSBA ADR Section Chair, served as attorney coach for the Annapolis High School mock trial team, which captured the 2013 MSBA High School Mock Trial state championship on April 19.

Wes Blakeslee, the Executive Director of Johns Hopkins Technology Transfer, was named an Outstanding Engineering Alumnus by the Penn State College of Engineering; the award recognizes graduates who have reached exceptional levels of professional achievement. Blakeslee formerly held a litigation practice and served as a professor of computer law at the University of Maryland Law School.

The American college of Trial Lawyers inducted K. Donald Proctor as a Fellow. Proctor is the founding member of the Towson firm of Proctor & McKee, P.A.

The Bar Association of Montgomery County bestowed Patricia A. Weaver with its 2013 Professionalism Award. Weaver is the chair of the Appellate Practice Group at Paley Rothman.

Adelberg, Rudow, Dorf & Hendler, LLC, named David Applefeld as chair of its Litigation Section. 

Ted Staples opened Staples Law Group, LLC, at 116 Cathedral Street, Suite D, Annapolis, Maryland 21401. The firm (www.stapleslawgroup.com)   practices in criminal and civil litigation.

Max R. Masinter joined the Business, Corporate, and Tax Department of Tydings & Rosenberg, LLP, as an associate.

Thomas M. Meachum, a partner with Carney, Kelehan, Bresler, Bennett, and Scherr, LLP, was selected to join the Howard County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. The chamber seeks to advance the growth of the Howard County business community by serving as its voice, providing information and resources, and facilitating connections.

Paley Rothman named Jim Hammerschmidt co-president of the firm.
