Publication Updates

  • 2013 Supplement to Maryland Civil Pattern Jury Instructions – Published July 2013. Highlights of the 2013 Supplement include the following: the Committee extensively revised the first chapter’s general instructions to address the challenges of managing jurors today. Other new additions from this chapter relate to evidence, stipulations, depositions, and judicial notice. All instructions on Products Liability in Chapter 26 have been rewritten for better clarity and accuracy. Chapter 30 on Workers’ Compensation has been expanded from 10 instructions to 33, which now explain in further detail the nature of different injuries, employment relationships, disability classifications, and available remedies. Other new additions include Instructions for affirmative defenses in strict liability tort actions and for conditional privilege in defamation actions.   • Workers’ Compensation Manual, 16th Edition – Published September 2013. The new Sixteenth Edition brings this Manual up to date with all of the most relevant developments in workers’ compensation law through September 2013. The authors have expanded and updated each chapter with new substantive information, practice tips, case references, statutes, regulations, forms, and rate tables. This new material clarifies current law on issues such as: employee coverage, compensability, limitations periods, classification of disabilities, calculation of awards, vocational rehabilitation, reopening claims, acceleration of payments, settlements, and attorney’s fees.
