What is LOMA?

LOMA (Law Office Management Assistance) was created as a result of a report presented by the Task Force on Solo and Small Firm Practitioners to the Maryland State Bar Association.  The Task Force was created in June 1992 by then MSBA President Roger Perkins.  Roger was the MSBA's first president who was a solo practitioner and he believed that needs of this large segment of the membership were not being met.

What services are available through LOMA?

1.  LOMA provides information on topics related to office management and technology for solo and small firms. There is a small library of reviews and articles describing various software packages.
2.  LOMA has information packets on all areas of office management and technology which are available to members at no cost.
3.  LOMA acts as a telephone help desk for law practice management and technology for solo and small firm practitioners throughout the state.
4.  LOMA maintains a list of technology consultants who have been recommended by solo/small firm practitioners.  We make these lists available to members.
5.  There is a loose leaf binder of materials on "How to Start a Solo Practice, " with articles to help new and experienced practitioners start a solo practice.
6.  ABA publications that relate to technology or law practice management issues are offered to MSBA members at a discount.
7.  In the MSBA Bar Bulletin each month there is a SOLO AND SMALL FIRM PRACTITIONER COLUMN that include topics of interest to solo/small firm practitioners.  The column is practical and offers tips and suggestions on managing small law office.

Are these resources for only solo and small firm practitioners?

No.  Any member can contact LOMA for assistance.

Are all discussions confidential?

Absolutely.

Are there special educational programs for LOMA?

In conjunction with the Solo and Small Firm Practice Section and MICPEL, the following programs are available:

All sessions are recorded and available for downloading following the conference.

Solo Day @ the Annual Meeting
