October 10, 2012 - Voter Election Protection Training
6:00-8:00 pm - The Alliance, in partnership with the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, will be conducting a 2-hour  training for lawyers, law students and paralegals to serve as hotline call center volunteers on or before Election Day and to participate in a legal field deployment on Election Day to ensure the process is running properly in neighboring states.

March 13, 2012 - Meeting with Young Women In Action - The Alliance will be partnering again with the Young Women in Action Girls Mentoring Program (YWIA) to hold a forum discussion covering topics ranging from college preparation, our legal career paths and other common issues young women face.  YWIA has a multifaceted approach to mentoring girls, in select Baltimore City middle and high schools, who are at-risk for skipping school, dropping out of school, becoming pregnant, experiencing suspensions/expulsions, and getting in trouble with the law.  The forum discussion will be held on March 13, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at Gordon Feinblatt LLC, 233 Redwood Street, Baltimore , MD 21202.  If you would like to attend this event to encourage and inspire YWIA’s young women, please contact Marja Plater at marjaplater@yahoo.com.

April 24, 2012- General Body Meeting: Discussion of Officer Positions for 2012-2013 Year

May 15, 2012 - 5:30 p.m. - Community Service Event - The Alliance of Black Women Attorneys will be introducing young women of the Girls' Empowerment Mission (GEM) to the field of law through an interactive lesson on the legal process. The activity will engage students in an interactive case analysis centered around cyberbullying. Students will be placed in groups and have the opportunity to analyze whether the given factual scenarios would give rise to cyberbullying. Students will also have the opportunity to engage in a question/answer exchange with members of the Alliance about education, careers, and life choices. The Alliance is seeking volunteers to share their experiences and help facilitate the group sessions. The event will take place on May 15th at 5:30 pm at Chesapeake High School, 1801 Turkey Point Road, Baltimore, MD 21221. GEM is a program to empower high school girls from under-served communities by providing opportunities and growth experiences that will enable them to become independent, self-sufficient, and confident young women. GEM helps these girls understand that while they cannot help where they come from, they can control where they are going.

Join the Alliance for its next community service endeavor with My Sister's Place Women's Center (MSPWC).  In addition to serving as the new home of three existing Catholic Charities programs, MSPWC also provides three meals each day to women and children in need.  The program serves between 75 and 125 women and children daily.  On Sunday, June 5, 2011 from 11:00 am - 1:15 pm, the Alliance will assist in the meal service for women and children at the shelter.  Eight volunteers are needed.  For those interested in volunteering, please send an email to ab_wa@live.com.

ABWA (Saturday) Community Service Event

Please join the Alliance of Black Women Attorneys for a non legal community service opportunity where we as African American attorneys can give back in some small way to the community.

Members are needed to volunteer for Rebuilding Together Baltimore's April 26th Rebuilding Day.

Our team of volunteers will be helping the PenLucy Neighborhood in Baltimore City in beautifying their neighborhood on April 26 at 9:00am (reporting time). We will meet at 505 East 42nd Street, Baltimore, MD aka Safe Christian Fellowship...they will provide t-shirts, gardening tools and lunch, if people have small hand tools they should bring them.

More details will be provided shortly in regard to what to wear etc. and directions closer to the date.

Maryland Lawyers for the Arts and the Alliance of Black Women Attorneys join the Baltimore Festival of Maps with a special preview party for “Exploratory Searchery” at An Die Musik, 409 North Charles, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The exhibition features map-related paintings by artist Daniel Stuelpnagel, shown along side antique map prints by cartographer Ferdinand von Stuelpnagel, a distant relative of the present-day artist.

Artist’s talk at 8:00 pm.
