The Committee investigated 33 fee dispute cases last year, closing 19, and
settling five of them through arbitration hearings. It is presently working
to resolve 19 active cases through mediation or binding arbitration. The
Committee receives between 15-20 inquiries for fee dispute assistance each
week, primarily through phone calls to MSBA Headquarters and hits on the
Association’s website from disgruntled clients. If there is a reasonable
basis to believe the complaint has merit, a file is opened and referred to a
Committee member who, appointed as "Client Representative," reviews the
complaint, talks to both sides in the dispute, and attempts to mediate a
solution. More that 130 volunteers across the state actively participate in
this program, with administrative assistance from MSBA's staff. |
