What is a MSBA Email List?

If you are member of a MSBA Section or Committee and would like to join in continuing dialogues and topical discussions between your colleagues, subscribe to a MSBA Email List.

A Email List is a discussion group that takes place via e-mail using a Mailing List of subscribers. You can create an email message and send it to the Email List. The Email List will then send it to everyone who subscribes to that Email List.

The MSBA Email Lists are dedicated to sharing information and opening dialogues between people involved with the various Sections and Committees. These include Business Law, Criminal Law, Law Practice Management, Solo and Small Firm, Taxation, Negligence, Real Property, Corporate Litigation.

How to Subscribe to a MSBA Email List

You can subscribe to available MSBA Email Lists from the Email List page.
Find the list you wish to join and click the "Join" button. Enter your email address and name and then click the submit button.

Some lists require that you be a member of the associated section. To subscribe enter your information and a member of our staff will verify your information. If you are not a member of a particular section but would like to be added to the list you can join the section using our membership form.

Some lists are reserved for Committees, Councils, or other closed groups. They will not have a join button next to their name and only members of those groups can be added to those lists. If you are a member of one of these groups but aren't on the list please contact us.

How to Send a Message to a MSBA Email List

To send a message to a particular list, choose the list email address, compose your message and press "Send" on your e-mail software. By sending your message to one email address you are able to send your message to everyone who is a member of that list

NOTE: You must be a member of a specific list in order to send a message to that list.

How to Unsubscribe from a MSBA Email List

Directions on unsubscribing can be found in the footer of each Email List message. Here are some other methods of unsubscribing.

Send a message to lyris@lists.msba.org with either of the following in the message body.

unsubscribe "List Name" 
 Example: unsubscribe msbarealproperty 

leave "List Name"
 Example: leave msbarealproperty

Or send a message to:

leave-listname@lists.msba.org
 Example: leave-msbarealproperty@lists.msba.org

or send an email to webmaster@msba.org with the your name, email address used on the Email List and the list name.

Directions for Using the Digest Form for Email Lists

You may now choose to get a Digest version of the any of the MSBA list. This digest version will send to your mailbox a single message with attachments. You can then read them without having to see them throughout the day.

We are limited in how the messages can be sent to you based upon the Email List software that we currently use.

1. To change to the MimeDigest, you need to go to www.msba.org/?lyris

2. Log in with the email address you use for list messages.

3. Click on "Your Settings" (On this page you will be able to read list messages, send a message to the list, change your settings or unsubscribe from the list. You may choose to read the messages from this page.)

4. On the “Edit your member settings” page, click the down arrow button on "Status" and choose "mimedigest:one daily message with all the contributions for that day in MIME form" Please note: You should choose mimedigest and NOT just digest.

5. Then click “Save” at the bottom left of the screen. A message with attachments of all messages for that day will be sent at 12:01 AM.

What are the Rules for using the MSBA Email Lists?

The Maryland State Bar Association provides these Email Lists as a benefit to its members. The purpose of the Email Lists is to facilitate communication between members of the various committees and sections. The Email Lists are to be used only for the discussion of related MSBA issues or other legal discussions. The  MSBA have compiles a list of Email List Rules to help ensure that the Email List remain a useful communications tool for you and other members using the MSBA Email Lists.
