Maryland ADR Organizations
While the ADR Section of the Maryland State Bar
Association provides its members with a variety of benefits, there are other ADR
organizations within the State that provide additional resources for ADR
practitioners, including members of the Bar.
The Maryland Council for Dispute Resolution (MCDR)
is one such organization. MCDR is a 501(c)(3) organization, now in its eighth
year of operation, devoted to the personal and professional growth of dispute
resolution practitioners in Maryland. It’s history has included being part of
the initial shaping of the Maryland Rules of Procedure regarding Alternative
Dispute Resolution in the Circuit Courts and the formation of the first
voluntary Performance Based Mediator Certification in the country. It’s
membership is diverse and includes those practicing full time and part time as
private or government mediators, arbitrators, other conflict resolution
providers, teachers, professors and ADR and conflict resolution trainers living
or working in Maryland. MCDR benefits include: networking with other ADR
professionals of diverse backgrounds and practice areas; a Business Development
Group which offers access and business strategies and "how to’s" for
the newly-entering-the-field ADR practitioner members; sharing and education
through a quarterly newsletter; and, quarterly meetings centrally located in
Ellicott City, Maryland, which feature both a business segment and a substantive
program on a variety of ADR related topics.
MCDR’s 2002 quarterly meetings are from 7-9
p.m. on Tuesday March 5, 2002; Wednesday June 12, 2002; Tuesday September 10,
2002; and Tuesday December 10, 2002. MCDR is always welcoming new members and
invites all attorneys, ADR practitioners or those interested in ADR to attend
its networking and informative program meetings. MCDR is interested in cross
networking with the MSBA ADR Section this year and welcomes Section members. For
