PURPOSE:

The Purpose of the Business Law Section is to promote the objects of the Maryland State Bar Association within the field of corporation, banking and business law to bring together members of the Association have a special interest in that field and to further the study, development, and improvement of the law applicable thereto.

The Section sponsors programs throughout the year covering topics of general interest to corporation, banking and business lawyers.


2011/2012 ANNUAL REPORT:

This Section supported the compromise proposal to amend the MSBA’s Bylaws to add to the MSBA Board of Governors three new members elected by the MSBA’s Substantive Law Sections. It advanced legislation in the Maryland General Assembly that will clarify and update the Maryland Limited Liability Company Act. The Section hosted the 2012 Business Law Institute, featuring eight continuing legal education panels as well as Baltimore Ravens’ President Richard W. Cass discussing the Business of Baltimore Ravens Football, in April, while several of the Section’s committees produced free one to two-hour webinars for Section membership on substantive law topics of interest throughout the year. It will sponsor a program entitled “Legal Ethics – Riddles for Transactional Lawyers and Answers to Auditors’ Inquiry Letters” at the MSBA Annual Meeting.
