ELECTRONIC RECORDS: WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW CAN HURT YOU

The program was held at the Clarion Resort Fontainebleau Hotel on Thursday, June 11, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Those not in Ocean City that morning, could still take part via a (a) virtual meeting room with the ability to ask questions, watch video of the panel and listen to the program and ask questions or (b) conference call bridge to the program !

The program is geared to attorneys from a variety of practice areas, including family law.  Document retention is not only a concern for transactional lawyers and litigators. Topics covered include:

  • An overview of current standards for the management and protection of business records.
  • An overview of the evolving issues involving electronically stored information (ESI) from a business attorney's perspective at both a transaction and practice level.
  • How to prevent inadvertent disclosure of client information buried within electronic documents, the cost of preserving ESI, security threats, privacy concerns, ESI-related regulations and associated liability.
  • How responsibly to transmit, store, manage, and protect ESI while negotiating transactions.
  •  Records management for family lawyers--handling client e-mails, financial records, and electronic records of separation, custody and visitation agreements.
Speakers:
William A. McComas, Esq., Shapiro Sher Guinot & Sandler (Program Chair)
Michael Berman, Rifkin, Livingston, Levitan & Silver
Philip M. Bogart, Saul Ewing
Howard R. Feldman, Whiteford, Taylor & Preston
Matthew G. Hjortsberg, Partner, Bowie & Jensen
