JUDICIAL ADMINISTRATION SECTION

Section Council Appointment Procedure

The Judicial Administration Section conducts all of its business through its Council. Each year several members of the council rotate off either because they have served out their three-year term or because they wish to discontinue their service for various reasons. A nominating committee of the Council then submits names of prospective new Council members to the Council at large, which nominates new council members from that list.

The list of nominees is then submitted to the membership at large for an up-or-down vote. If others are interested in serving on the Council, but have not otherwise been identified by the members of the nominating committee, they need to contact the Chair of the Council to indicate their interest in so serving, and their name will be forwarded to the nominating committee for consideration. Generally, any such indication of interest should be received before the April meeting of the Council (third Thursday of the month).

The Council strives to attract members representing a diversity of interests, including geographic diversity, private practitioners, sitting judges from the different courts, administrative law judges, masters, representatives of the Office of the State's Attorneys and the Office of the Public Defender, and others eligible for membership in the Section whose practice affects the administration of justice in Maryland.
