The Judicial Administration Section Council is looking for new council and section members! In 2007 we presented our appellate panel program at the June conference. We also prepared for distribution to the bench a Professionalism Self-Assessment Tool. We collected Maryland Circuit Court responses to our voir dire surveys and published them on our section website. Our proposed Maryland Telephone Testimony Rule is now under review by the Rules Committee. And we made recommendations on 24 legislative bills. In 2008, results are being completed from a masters survey which will be distributed to circuit administrative judges to help define the many roles masters play. And for this year’s project—“Raising the Bar” –- we are planning to have a series of seminars in different counties to educate the bar on the Maryland rules of civil procedure, beginning with an MSBA summer conference presentation— Are You Smarter Than A Law Student? Furthermore, in the upcoming months, we will be seeking attorney input on how and when the Judiciary should participate in resolving the plethora of issues raised by self-representation. We need your input and participation! Please do not hesitate to contact us at rjakubowski@baltimorecountymd.gov or dchiu@stattorney.org if you are interested!
