2011/2012 ANNUAL REPORT:

The Section continued to review and rule on Rule 16 applications for student practitioners and also prepared revised Policy and Practices regarding Rule 16 to clarify the eligibility of externship programs for approval; as of March 8, that document was under consideration by the Standing Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure of the Court of Appeals. It also invited Professors Judith Welch Wegner of North Carolina University School of Law and Peter A. Joy of Washington University (St. Louis) School of Law to speak on the future of legal education at the Section’s annual dinner.

PURPOSE:

The purposes of the Section are to consider, discuss, recommend to the Association, and implement measures for the improvement of the systems of pre-legal and legal education and admission to the Bar in the State of Maryland, methods for inculcating in law students the sincere regard for the ethics and morals of the profession necessary to its high calling and means for the establishment and maintenance of adequate and proper standards of general education, legal training, and moral character of applicants for admission to the Bar, including the manner of testing their academic qualifications and determining their moral character.
