NEGLIGENCE, INSURANCE, AND WORKER’S COMPENSATION SECTION
COUNCIL MEETING AT BAR HEADQUARTERS
Present at the meeting were the Chair, Gary Crawford, Mike McAuliffe,
Mike Steinhart, Ray Hertz, Ted Cornblatt, and Andy Janquito (Past Chair).
1. Web Site and List Serv: Those who had viewed our Web
Site and List Serv had favorable comments. It was suggested that we add a link
to coolstuff.com which then has links to a large variety of other legal Web
Sites around the State and nationally. Two (2) of the members had difficulty
entering the List Serv and we will ask Tom Nordby to check on that.
2. Out Reach Meeting March 30, 1999: The Program as referenced
in last month’s Minutes and in the Notice to all Section Members has been
finalized. We will prepare a notice to be posted at the WCC with the permission
of the Commission. The meeting will cover recent cases, common issues, and
procedures at the Commission. No pending cases or hypothetical questions will
be permitted for obvious reasons.
3. Annual Meeting: Ray Hertz reported on this. It has
been scheduled for Friday, June 11, 1999 as part of "Solo Day" from
the Solo and Small Practice Section. There will be a Bench/Bar Symposium from
10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on handling personal injury and negligence cases in
the District and Circuit Courts with three (3) District Court Judges and three
(3) Circuit Court Judges. After lunch, there may be a breakout section dealing
with negligence and personal injury issues for people to attend. Speakers were
discussed and will be contacted for participation. Stay posted.
4. Legislation: Numerous Bills were discussed and will
be posted in a separate memo under Legislation Review.
5. SIP Fund: Those who have not paid were reminded and the balance
of the year will be "pay as you go".
6. Revised Slate for 1999-2000: Those present acted as The Nominating
Committee and have finalized the Slate for publication in the MSBA Bar Bulletin
subject to contact with those selected by the Council.
7. Sub Chair Legislation: Mike McAuliffe volunteered to act as the
Chair of the Subcommittee on legislation and will be provided with faxed copies
of those members of the Section who have volunteered to work on legislation.
8. Sub Chair Newsletter: Mike Steinhart has volunteered to be the Chair
of the Subcommittee on the Newsletter and will be provided with the list of
volunteers from the Section. He is hopeful of producing a newsletter soon and
prior to the June meeting.
9. Budget: An update on the budget was given by the Chair.
10. Future Programs: The Chair reported interest from the Section in
a program on liens and it has been suggested that we try to plan that for next
year with M.I.C.P.E.L.
11. New Business: Andy Janquito reported that M.I.C.P.E.L. will be
sponsoring a seminar co-sponsored by our Section on Insurance Issues similar
to past seminars on auto liability insurance, UIM, and PIP issues.
The meeting was adjourned at approximately 9:00 p.m. Section Council members
are reminded of the next Section Council meeting April 14, 1999 at the Far
East restaurant in Rockville, Maryland. Please calendar May 11th for
the last Section Council meeting tentatively at the Kent Manor Inn in Queen
Anne’s County.
