Section Council Appointment Procedure
Generally, members of the Real Property Section
Council reach out to other members of the Real Property Section that they have
met over the years and invite them to be active in Section Council matters. In
addition to the Section Council, the primary ongoing regular activity of the
Section involves the Code Revision/Legislative Liaison Committee. It has
approximately 15 members. Historically, service on the Legislative Liaison
Committee would ultimately lead to a position on the Section Council. Officers
of the Section Council are chosen by a nominating committee appointed by the
current Chair, and are usually selected from persons having had experience on
the Section Council.
Normally, a person serves two years as a Vice
Chair of Legislative Liaison Committee and, assuming all has gone well, is then
asked to be Chair of the Legislative Liaison Committee for two years. The Chair
of the Legislative Liaison Committee also serves as a member of the Section
Council. Following a stint as Chair of the Legislative Liaison Committee, a
person may then be offered an opportunity to be an officer of the Section
Council.
Naturally, the progression as an officer of the
Section Council is first one is nominated to be Secretary of the Section
Council, then Vice Chair of the Section Council, then Chair of the Section
Council assuming one's performance has been adequate each year. Most of the
standing committees of the Real Property Section are chaired and staffed by
members of the Section Council. You can become a member of the Section Council
by asking existing members of the Section Council to put your name forward as a
nominee for any openings on the Section Council.
Section members can be selected or nominated to
serve on committees and/or on the Section Council.
