LAND USE COMMITTEE:

The Land Use Committee of the Real Property Section Announces its Fall Seminar

We have a very interesting group of speakers on novel and timely topics:

  • Gus Bauman of Beveridge & Diamond will speak on the recent cases from the Supreme Court (yes, the Supremes) regarding “Takings”
  • Stanley Fine of Rosenberg Martin will discuss his experiences using “Development Agreements” in East Baltimore (a redevelopment project that is huge)
  • Nancy Regelin of Shulman Rogers will talk about the use of a development agreement in a suburban redevelopment project (The Rockville Mall redevelopment)

The use of Development Agreements is authorized by State law, but not used as often as it could be. Whatever the reason, both land-use lawyers and planners(public and private) should have a very good grasp of its benefits and pit-falls, in order to achieve the best possible result for their clients, be they the private or public sector.
