Andrew D. ("Andy") Ball, a member of the Tax Section Council, died on Saturday, June 10, 2000, at his home in Potomac, Maryland. Andy was born in New York City, earned his B.A. at Yale, magna cum laude, and his J.D. at Harvard. After working at the Federal Trade Commission, Andy practiced law in New York, and eventually came to Maryland and opened a solo practice in Rockville. As a tax attorney, Andy took a leadership role. He was Chair of the Montgomery County Section of Taxation in 1984-85, and he joined the Tax Section Council of Maryland in 1998, serving during this past year as Chair of the Technology Committee. He was also a member of the Steering Committee of the Montgomery/Prince George’s County Tax Study Group until his untimely death. Andy is survived by his wife, Judy, two sons, Jeffrey and Jonathan, and many friends. We shall miss his presence on the Council, his contributions, and his friendship.
