Congratulations, Alex Fee Memorial Award

Pro Bono Committee
Co-Chairs: Renée E. Hood and Patrick H. McCormally

Congratulations to Lisa A. Hall Johnson of Dickstein Shapiro LLP, 2012 recipient of the Maryland Pro Bono Service Alex Fee Award.  The Alex Fee Memorial Award, sponsored by the Young Lawyers Section (YLS), is given to a member of the YLS who is making a significant pro bono contribution either directly or through a pro bono organization. Lisa A. Hall Johnson was an easy choice. Despite the pressures of billable hours and maintaining a balanced family life, Lisa actively engages in her firm’s pro bono efforts and volunteers as a mentor and mock trial coach to the Duke Ellington School of the Arts Street Law class through the Washington Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs School Partnership Project. She regularly tackles public service initiatives and represents pro bono clients, including her current collaboration with the ACLU of Maryland in Maryland Public Information Act litigation against the Maryland State Police, and has served as a judge in moot court competitions for the National Black Law Students Association; Jessup International Moot Court Association; the PBCBA High School Mock Trial Competition; and the communications law class at Bowie State University. Lisa also currently serves as an Executive Committee Member of the Equal Justice Associates, an organization that supports the Young Lawyers Division of the Maryland Legal Aid Bureau. Moreover, Lisa will be honored as one of the “Nation’s Best Advocates: 40 Lawyers Under 40” by IMPACT and the National Bar Association at a special awards gala in Las Vegas on July 15, 2012. Congratulations again, Lisa! The Alex Fee Memorial Award was presented to Lisa by the Pro Bono Resource Center of Maryland and Chief Judge Bell at the Maryland State Bar Association’s Annual Meeting in Ocean City on June 16, 2012.
