The Maryland State Bar Association (MSBA) is seeking candidates for its new Law Clerk Internship Program. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Conducting legal research to develop substantive resources and tools for legal professionals to use in their practices;
  • Recruiting, engaging, and collaborating with subject matter experts to curate additional tools and resources;
  • Analyzing current trends in the legal profession to draft timely articles/blog posts related to the practice of law;
  • Reviewing and revising existing content as needed to ensure content is up-to-date and relevant;
  • Researching and analyzing cited statutes, cases, rules, and other legal authorities for accuracy;
  • Working with web design team to populate MSBA website with resources and tools in a visually pleasing and inviting manner;
  • Assisting technology and marketing/communication teams to market resources and tools; and
  • Other administrative tasks as directed/needed.

The Law Clerk Internship Program is open to strong 1L or 2L enrolled in an accredited law school who have experience with legal research, legal writing, editing, and proofreading (Law Review preferred). Successful candidates must be able to analyze legal issues and concepts, work both independently and as part of a team; work well under pressure, adhere to deadlines, and handle adversity; network and build relationships with subject matter experts; possess a positive attitude and exhibit resilience in a change environment; and have excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as knowledge of Google Suite and Microsoft Office.

The Law Clerk Internship Program begins March 4, 2019, and continues through August 16, 2019, with the option to continue through fall 2019 for qualifying applicants. Law Clerks will gain experience in a variety of departments, including Continuing Legal Education, Publications, and Profession & Practice Advancement. Law Clerks must work a minimum of 14 hours and a maximum of 21 hours each week; schedules will be set according to the Law Clerk’s class schedule. This paid position includes free parking, and Law Clerks will be invited to attend various networking opportunities with MSBA members, as well as a meeting of the Board of Governors.
