On December 7, 2021, the MSBA held its final Board meeting of the year.   Pursuant to Article VI, Section 5 of the MSBA Bylaws, the Board appointed former Secretary David Shapiro to fill the vacant President-Elect position.  Mr. Shapiro will become President of the MSBA on June 3, 2022 during the MSBA’s annual Legal Summit.

David Shapiro is an accomplished business and healthcare attorney, and a Partner at Paley Rothman in Bethesda, Maryland.  During his legal career, Mr. Shapiro has been extremely active in his community and the legal profession.  Currently, Mr. Shapiro serves as the Chair of Hearts and Homes for Youth, a Maryland-based non-profit organization dedicated to empowering Maryland youth who have experienced abuse, neglect, mental health issues, homelessness, and other trauma.  In addition to his role as MSBA Secretary, Mr. Shapiro also serves as the co-Chair of the MSBA’s 125th Anniversary committee, is a Maryland Bar Foundation Fellow, and remains active in the Business Law Section.

MSBA BoG Nominates Officers for 2022-23

In addition to filling the President-Elect vacancy, the Board, pursuant to Article VI, Section 2 of the MSBA Bylaws, nominated the following individuals for officer roles for the 2022-23 Bar year:

  • President-Elect (2022-23):  Jason DeLoach
  • Treasurer:  Marisa Trasatti
  • Secretary:  Carl Isler

Mr. DeLoach is the current Treasurer of the MSBA, and an attorney at Alexander & Cleaver.  In addition to his work as MSBA Treasurer, Mr. DeLoach has served on the MSBA’s executive committee and has served as chair of the Budget & Finance Committee.  Outside of the MSBA, Mr. DeLoach has held numerous leadership roles, including Chairman of the Prince George’s Chamber of Commerce (2017-18), and Treasurer of the Maryland Municipal Attorneys Association (2012-Present).

Ms. Trasatti is a Partner with Wilson Elser.  In that role. Ms. Trasatti concentrates her work on civil litigation and corporate work, acting as outside general counsel for local Maryland businesses.  Ms. Trasatti is also an active member of the MSBA serving as faculty for a number of CLE programs.  She has held several leadership roles in the legal profession, including recently serving as President of the Maryland Defense Counsel and as a member of the Judicial Disabilities Commission.

Mr. Isler is an attorney with the Legal Services Corporation Office of Compliance & Enforcement.  As an active member in the MSBA, Mr. Isler is a past-chair of the Young Lawyers Section and has been a member of multiple MSBA committees.  In addition, he has held several leadership roles within the Maryland Bar Foundation, MSBA’s philanthropic arm.  Outside of the MSBA, Mr. Isler been active and held leadership roles in the ABA and the Women’s Law Center of Maryland.

The above listed nominations will be presented for a membership vote at the upcoming annual business meeting held as part of the MSBA’s Legal Summit on June 3, 2022.
