Apply For An ID Badge

The Maryland State Bar Association Courthouse Identification Badge is available to any attorney who:

  • has been admitted to practice law in this state,
  • is currently a member of the bar in good standing, and
  • who is currently certified by the Court of Appeals as an active practitioner (or exempt inactive/retired practitioner), pursuant to the attorney’s compliance with the rules of the Clients’ Protection Fund of the Bar of Maryland (CPF), including payment of the annual assessment fee required by the CPF.

Identification badges expire three (3) years from the date of processing. (Please note that you will not receive any notice from us reminding you of your current badge’s expiration.)

There is a ​$10.00​ administrative fee for issuance of a badge. Issued badges will be held for up to 90 days.

Please note that a confirmation letter will NOT be mailed after your application is processed. To verify the status of an application, contact the Sheriff’s Identification Section/Bar Association selected on the application 3-4 weeks after submission.

If you are picking up your badge at a location that does not take your photo, you must bring TWO HEADSHOT PHOTOS (1 ¼” x 1” wide) and you must verify your identity by bringing a separate picture I.D. (i.e. a driver’s license).


Effective immediately, and until further notice, attorneys will be able to pick up their attorney ID cards at BABC headquarters by appointment only.
