1/11/23 New Intestacy Laws Update

Effective October 1, 2023, Maryland has adopted new laws of intestacy and registered domestic partnerships.  ADR professionals, estate planning and administration, and family law attorneys should all become well-versed in the present laws due to their impact on Maryland families, including our own families.

Notice of Postponement of 2021 Chief Judge Bell Award

Responding to suggestions from the bench, bar and from ADR section members regarding a 2021 Chief Judge Bell (CJB) Award, the MSBA ADR Section Council has discussed the issue and voted to postpone the request for nominations for a 2021 CJB Award and will instead focus on truly honoring Toby Guerin, our 2020 recipient, during a 2021 event. As you may remember, our Spring Event to honor the 2020 CJB award recipient was cancelled due to the pandemic.

The ADR Section Council is committed to a virtual event in 2021. The 2020 recipient of the Chief Judge Bell Award, Toby Guerin, will be honored at that event.

Details will follow regarding the format for the Spring 2021 event. We can’t wait to connect with our community and appreciate all of the communication and feedback that we have received so far this year.
