Lawyers’ careers are defined by service to others: their clients; the law; and ultimately, the public good. Unfortunately, this too often means a lack of time, resources, or knowledge to deal with personal- or work-related stress. MSBA’s Lawyer Assistance Program exists to fill this critical gap.
Everybody experiences personal or professional difficulties at one point or another. MSBA provides free, confidential counseling as part of our Lawyer Assistance Program, because we believe in the value and worth of our members. We help lawyers, judges, law students, and their families through personal or work-related challenges – no matter how severe. MSBA supports the “whole person” – including your physical and psychological health.
Our services include help for a broad range of problems and personal concerns, including: wellness, depression, marital and family issues, alcohol and drug abuse, stress and burnout, career concerns, gambling, addiction, compulsive spending, eating disorders, work/life balance, and bereavement.
If you are concerned about another lawyer, you can make a confidential referral to the Lawyer Assistance Program.
The Lawyer Assistance Program Committee oversees the services that MSBA provides for lawyers in need. Since 1981, LAP has helped lawyers dealing with everything from drug and alcohol abuse and depression, to chronic stress and family issues.
