Chief Judge Mary Ellen Barbera has issued an Administrative Order and the judiciary has updated its holiday schedule to reflect that the courts will be closed on Friday, June 18, 2021, in observance of Juneteenth National Independence Day.

The court closure comes after Governor Larry Hogan issued a proclamation recognizing June 19 as “Juneteenth Day,” which commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. In line with this proclamation, Governor Hogan announced that state government agencies and offices will be closed on Friday, June 18, 2021, in observance of the holiday.

According to Chief Judge Barbera’s order, in years to follow, “June 19, or the day that will be designated in the event that June 19 falls on a weekend, shall be a Court holiday.”
