Pursuant to the provisions of Section 6.4 of the Constitution of the American Bar Association, the Maryland State Bar Association is entitled to be represented by a total of seven delegates in the ABA House of Delegates. The ABA House of Delegates has the ultimate responsibility for establishing the association’s policies for administration of the association and its positions on professional and public issues. The House elects the ABA officers and board of governors. MSBA delegates to the ABA House of Delegates are expected to attend each House meeting and participate in its proceedings. The House of Delegates meets twice each year at the ABA Annual Meeting in July/August and at the ABA Mid-Year Meeting in February.

At the conclusion of the ABA Annual Meeting on August 8, 2023 the terms of three (3) MSBA delegates will expire, creating three (3) vacant delegate positions.  The MSBA Board of Governors will elect the next delegates at its meeting to be held on May 19, 2023. Two (2) at-large positions and one (1) young lawyer representative position is available.  As is tradition, one (1) of the at-large positions will be filled by the MSBA’s incoming President-Elect leaving one (1) open at-large position and one (1) young lawyer position available.  Elected delegates will begin their service following the 2023 ABA Annual Meeting and serve a two-year term.

Any member of the MSBA who wishes to be considered for the at-large or young lawyer  position should submit his or her name and a brief autobiography and a letter of interest addressed to Anna Sholl, Executive Director, Maryland State Bar Association.  All materials should be sent by email only to Theresa Michael (theresa@msba.org) by or before 5:00pm on Friday, April 28, 2023.  Anyone who expresses an interest in these positions by submitting materials in accordance with these guidelines will be deemed nominated as a candidate.
