During the 2023 legislative session, A2JC was successful in achieving a key legislative win to secure an additional 3 years of funding to fully implement the Access to Counsel in Evictions law. Over the past few years, A2JC is proud to have coordinated and collaborated with civil justice partners to raise awareness about and elevate the profile of the crisis in the civil justice system; successfully advocated for a statewide access to counsel in evictions law; and secured funding for the law to ensure full implementation. Our efforts over the past few years have had a measurable impact, including an almost four fold increase in civil legal aid funding in the state totalling over $82M since the start of the pandemic; a new eviction data law; and the development of new data tools, like the Housing Data Dashboard, that inform civil justice system policy reform.
