Join the MSBA Estates and Trust Law Section for the newest presentation of Estate Planning in the Era of High Estate Tax Exemptions – a New Way of Thinking, on February 25, 2020 in Columbia, MD!
This program is designed to cover estate planning for the Maryland practitioner in 2020 and moving forward primarily in light of recent tax law changes. Traditional thinking in many ways is being turned on its head and new ways of approaching the clients’ goals should be considered and will be addressed in this program. Topics include an overview of the current Maryland estate and inheritance taxes, with a focus on income tax considerations and the importance of flexible planning in light of tax basis issues and the larger Federal and Maryland estate tax exemptions. Other topics covered will be asset protection, and practical considerations such as gifting options for the medium to large estates, including obtaining Grantor Trust status, transfer strategies to a Defective Trust, and other planning techniques for larger estates. The course is designed for the practitioner who has either rudimentary or intermediate experience in estate planning in Maryland.
If you can’t attend the live program in Columbia, it will be simulcast/webcast concurrently for viewing around the state and will be available online on-demand one week after the program. 4.0 hours credits will be offered to the surrounding MCLE states.
