How to Build a Personal Brand and Why Every Lawyer Needs One (FREE for MEMBERS)

Most lawyers are stuck in the traditional this-is-what-it-means-to-be-a-lawyer mindset, and though that’s worked up to a point, in a COVID-19 world that approach doesn’t work like it used to. Now a lot of lawyers are struggling to keep their practice afloat. That’s why a pivot is necessary.

Through my work at Beyond the Bar Institute, a personal branding and online marketing consultancy for attorneys who are ready to leverage the internet and grow their practice, I’ve realized that most lawyers don’t understand what it means to build a personal brand and why that’s key to growing their practice right now.

To explain what a personal brand is and why it’s so important, I’ll cover:

  • what it means to create a personal brand and why every lawyer needs one;
  • how a simple one-page website is all that’s needed to get started (and what should be included on that page);
  • why a personal brand is a great way to build an attorney’s know, like and trust factor;
  • how utilizing story, experiences and expertise will help grow any practice and differentiate it from others; and
  • how optimizing social media profiles in a way that reflects a personal brand and not a law firm is the way to go

And I’ll also peel back the curtain on my personal brand and show attendees what I’ve done (and do) to create a profitable, virtual law firm that’s not built on trading dollars for hours or retainer fees. Instead, I use an out-of-the-box approach that involves multiple income streams and passive income – both of which I’ve built through my personal brand and nontraditional law practice.
