Topic: How to Effectively Advocate for your Client during a Credible Fear Interview or Reasonable Fear Interview with the Asylum Office
During a credible fear interview (CFI), the Asylum Office assesses whether the asylum seeker has a “credible fear” of returning to their home country. Credible fear means a “significant possibility” of ultimately prevailing on claims for asylum, withholding of removal, or relief under the Convention Against Torture. During a reasonable fear interview (RFI), the Asylum Office will assess whether the asylum seeker has a “reasonable fear” of returning to their home country. Reasonable fear means a “reasonable possibility” that the individual would be persecuted “on account of” a protected ground or a “reasonable possibility that they would be tortured in the country of removal.”
