Small and medium-sized businesses face particular challenges when an employee discloses a serious illness. Participants will learn practical techniques to enhance business continuity while meeting federal and Maryland laws on earned sick and safe leave, family medical leave, disability accommodation, pregnancy, non-discrimination, and privacy. This session will provide key points of salient federal and Maryland law and highlight the tensions which can arise between the differing compliance obligations of those laws.
