Preserving Affordable Housing in Maryland: New and Expanded Local Rights of First Refusal Systems

Description

Local governments are increasingly interested in preserving affordable housing in their respective jurisdictions by adopting and using what are known as Rights of First Refusal, or “ROFRs”. Maryland real estate attorneys should familiarize themselves with these ROFRs to help their clients and keep their deals on track. Howard County is the latest jurisdiction to enact a ROFR ordinance. Alastair Smith of the Howard County Housing Commission and Morenike Oyenusi, Senior Assistant County Solicitor, Howard County Office of Law joins us to discuss this new law. Katie Noonan a Partner at Ballard Spahr and Steven Dunn an Associate at Lerch, Early & Brewer also join us to discuss ROFRs in Prince George’s County and Montgomery County, Maryland.
