The Maryland State Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section, as an affiliate of the Wills for Heroes Foundation, and in cooperation with the Maryland Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, is proud to sponsor the Wills for Heroes/Wills for Veterans program. The Maryland Chapter of the Federal Bar Association began its own initiative to assist veterans in 2017, and now partners with Wills for Heroes to bring you this event for veterans.
We are looking for volunteer attorneys and notaries to participate in a Wills for Heroes event to benefit veterans on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the American Legion, 6900 Greenbelt Road, Greenbelt, MD 20770. Volunteers will receive training from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and then will see clients for one (1) hours appointments starting at 10:30 a.m. and ending at 3:30 p.m.
The Wills for Heroes Foundation is a national non-profit organization that provides free wills, advance directives and powers of attorney to first responders, including police officers, firefighters, paramedics, corrections and probation officers. The foundation was started in response to the tragic events of 9/11, and is administered nationwide by local affiliate programs. This particular event aims to assist veterans in need of simple estate planning. At this day-long event, volunteer attorneys meet with veterans and use HotDocs software donated by LexisNexis to draft the documents, which are then signed, witnessed and notarized at the event. More information on the Wills for Heroes Foundation is available at: www.willsforheroes.org.
You must have your own malpractice insurance to participate; coverage will not be provided for you. No experience in trusts and estates law is required to participate, although we welcome experienced practitioners. To volunteer, or to learn more about the program, please contact Lindsay A. Freedman at email@example.com, or 301-441-1400.
