The Maryland State Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section, as an affiliate of the Wills for Heroes Foundation, is proud to sponsor the Wills for Heroes program. We are looking for volunteer attorneys and notaries to participate in a Wills for Heroes event to benefit Queen Anne’s County first responders on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 110 Vincit Street, Centreville MD 21617.* Volunteers will receive training from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and then will see clients for one (1) hour appointments starting at 10:30 a.m. and ending at approximately 3:30 p.m.
The Wills for Heroes Foundation is a national non-profit organization that provides free wills, advance directives and powers of attorney to first responders, including police officers, firefighters, paramedics, corrections and probation officers. The foundation was started in response to the tragic events of 9/11, and is administered nationwide by local affiliate programs. This particular event aims to assist police and firefighters in need of simple estate planning. At this day-long event, volunteer attorneys meet with first responders and use HotDocs software donated by LexisNexis to draft the documents, which are then signed, witnessed and notarized at the event. More information on the Wills for Heroes Foundation is available at: www.willsforheroes.org.
You must have your own malpractice insurance to participate; coverage will not be provided for you. No experience in trusts and estates law is required to participate, although we welcome experienced practitioners. To volunteer, or to learn more about the program, please contact Bruce Villard at email@example.com.
*This event will be held in a conference room within a relatively new building complex housing the Queen Anne’s County Board of Elections and Department of Planning and Zoning. This new complex was built on a road that is also relatively new. Some mapping websites and GPS systems may not yet have loaded updates indicating the new road, building complex, or both. Directions will be provided to volunteers.
