MARYLAND STATE BAR ASSOCIATION, INC.

COMMITTEE ON ETHICS

ETHICS DOCKET NO. 1988-93

Attorney: Practice of Law in Maryland by Non-Maryland Attorney

You indicate that you are not a member of the Maryland Bar, but are employed as an attorney by the U.S. Department of Labor. You are, however, a member of the District of Columbia and Massachusetts Bars. You wish to know whether you may practice law out of your home in the State of Maryland, while not a member of the Maryland State Bar.

The Committee on Ethics of the Maryland State Bar Association is not authorized to issue legal opinions. We are therefore not in a position to opine as to whether or not the preparation of a Will or Trust at your home in Maryland constitutes the unauthorized practice of law in the State of Maryland.

We would suggest that you consult the Annotated Code of Maryland with respect to the rules and regulations as to admission to the Maryland State Bar.
