MSBA’s 125th Anniversary invites us to pause for critical reflection on the state of our profession, how we have wielded our position of influence historically, how we might exercise that privilege responsibly going forward, and, finally, what we imagine and dare to reimagine about the legal profession’s role in the future of justice in our state, nation, and world.
With this in mind, the MSBA 125th Anniversary Thought Leadership Series will set the table and, through a myriad of formats, will invite innovative thinkers and fierce leaders to spark robust discussion and forward-thinking dialogue about the historical relationship and future direction of justice and the legal profession, with a focus on the following themes: Guardians of Justice; Reforming Justice; Access to Justice; and Science, Technology and Justice. It will take place over an 18-month period, commencing in June 2021 and concluding in December 2022.
This journey will help present us with a nuanced view on how the MSBA’s role continues to evolve, and helps us to chart a course for the next 125 years of shaping the legal profession to better serve our communities in preserving justice.
We are pleased to welcome Grace E. Speights, Partner at Morgan Lewis, in our April installment of the Spark Series. The event will be live-streamed on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at 6 p.m. The event is open and free to members and non-members.
The first Spark Series discussion, entitled Democracy in Peril: The Role of Lawyers and the Legal Profession, explored the role of lawyers as Guardians of Justice.
The event featured a discussion with Sherrilyn Ifill, President and Director-Counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF). Learn more about Ms. Ifill’s leadership and awards here.
