On February 13, 2020, more than 40 lawyers joined the YLS in the Harford County Circuit Court’s Ceremonial Courtroom to hear the tips and tricks of practicing before the Harford County Bench. Attendees heard from the Hon. Diane Adkins-Tobin, the Hon. Yolanda Curtin, the Hon. Paul Ishak, the Hon. Kevin Mahoney, and Magistrate Laura Walker of the Harford Circuit Court, and the Hon. David Carey of the District Court of Maryland. The panel started by discussing the right mindset a lawyer should strive to develop, and then dove straight into a wealth of practical tips for best advocating before the bench. Lawyers (young and old) left with new practical tips to grow their professions, ranging from active listening and working collegiality, all the way to pre-marking exhibits and formatting dates on proposed orders for easy MDEC signing. Following the panel, attendees and panelists alike joined together for a reception right down Main Street at Black Eyed Suzies.

The YLS would like to extend major thank you to our insightful panelists and the many practictioners who joined us for helping to make the evening as informative as it was fun. We’d also like specially thank the Harford Bar Association and Harford Women’s Bar Association for all their supoort. We hope to be able to do it again soon!
