Dear members of the Maryland State Bar Association:
It is with profound honor and a deep sense of purpose that I address you as your President about what we will build together this year. My path to this moment began in the courtrooms of Baltimore City, where I first understood that the law is not merely a profession; it is a calling. This conviction has guided every role I have held, and it is the spirit I bring to this presidency.
I am grateful to my predecessor Marissa Trasatti for leaving this association stronger and better connected. I look forward to the partnership of our Board of Governors and Executive Team. None of what we envision this year happens without them, and none of it happens without you. This year’s work is anchored in three commitments: One Profession. One Standard. The Rule of Law, Fully Realized.
One Profession means that every member, every practice area, and every career stage are fully engaged. We will open section opportunities to early-career attorneys, host open member meetings, and build the cross-practice connections that remind us we are stronger together than apart.
One Standard means treating lawyers' well-being as a professional imperative, not a last resort. Through a strengthened Lawyer Assistance Program, we will build proactive support because a profession that does not care for its people cannot fully serve the public.
The Rule of Law, Fully Realized is our promise of outcomes: Maryland’s first Advocacy Impact Report, an MSBA AI Certification that establishes our authority in legal technology, modernized CLE access, and expanded access-to-justice partnerships. Results members can see, measure, and use.
These commitments are strengthened by an unwavering focus on Women in the Law. This does not mean simply increasing representation, but expanding leadership opportunities, mentorship, sponsorship, and visibility across our profession. When every lawyer has the opportunity to lead, and every voice has the opportunity to shape our future, the profession itself becomes stronger.
The Maryland State Bar Association has never lacked talent, dedication, or purpose. The infrastructure, the talent, and the opportunity are here. What this moment calls for is the courage to use all of it.
This presidency belongs to all of us. Together, we can build a stronger profession, better support one another, and ensure that the rule of law is not merely defended but fully realized. I invite you to join me.
With gratitude, optimism, and determination,
Natasha M. Dartigue, Esq.
