The training will do the following:
- provide a basic overview of habeas corpus law in the civil detention context;
- orient practitioners to the major statutory detention authorities in the immigration space;
- walk through legal theories for challenging common postures of unlawful immigration detention; and
- discuss the practicalities of representation in the detained immigration context.
The training is intended to equip practitioners to volunteer to take their first pro bono habeas case with the support of ongoing attorney mentorship, and opportunities for further engagement will be shared.
