In this session, we’ll explore the role nonprofit boards play in supporting mission-driven organizations and what board members are truly responsible for. We’ll talk about how professionals, and specifically lawyers, can contribute their skills and perspective while gaining valuable leadership and governance experience, as well as a few common pitfalls to avoid.

Wendy Jeffries is a facilitator, coach, and strategist who partners with mission-driven organizations. She is currently the CEO and Lead Consultant of Spark Solutions Consulting, helping nonprofits & community leaders bridge the gap between planning and doing. Her superpower is turning complexity into clarity.
She specializes in nonprofit board governance and organizational health. Wendy brings 25 years of education and nonprofit experience, including roles as a middle school teacher at a public charter school, program director, founding Executive Director, board member, and Governance Committee Chair. She continues to actively serve on board.
Wendy is a Licensed Consultant with the Standards for Excellence®, a nationally recognized program providing consulting services to nonprofits committed to the highest level of ethics and accountability in nonprofit governance, management, and operations. She earned a Certificate of Nonprofit Board Consulting from BoardSource and has been trained as an Interim Executive Director with the Support Center (NYC).
She lives in Baltimore City, Maryland with her two daughters and husband.
